Privacy Policy
Effective 10 October 2026 · Applies to https://www.ustednav.app and the USTED NAV app
USTED NAV is a free, independent campus navigation tool for USTED Kumasi. This page explains, in plain English, what happens to your information when you use it. The short version: we do not require accounts, we never ask for your name or email, and we do not sell any data.
1. Who we are
USTED NAV is run independently by a student developer (KINGENIOUS) and is not an official university system. It is hosted at www.ustednav.app. Questions about this policy are listed in section 10.
2. What we do not collect
- No account registration — there are no usernames or passwords
- No email address, phone number, or student ID is asked for or stored
- No payment information (the app is free and will stay free for students)
- No precise location history — where you are is used on your device and not saved
3. Anonymous usage analytics
To understand which buildings and rooms people look up (so we can improve the app), we record very small, anonymous usage events. Each event can include:
- A random device ID and session ID — generated automatically in your browser; they are not linked to your real identity
- Device basics — operating system type and screen size
- App activity — which page you opened, search terms you typed (for example “ROB 26”), whether you started a route, and whether the app is installed on your home screen
These events are sent to our private analytics database (Supabase) and to Google Analytics 4 and Vercel Web Analytics. Google Analytics may additionally use cookies or similar identifiers and process an anonymised version of your IP address under Google’s Privacy Policy. You can opt out of Google Analytics with Google’s browser add-on.
4. Location data
When you ask for “where am I” or start a route, your browser asks for location permission. The coordinates are used on your device only to draw your route on the map. We do not store or upload your location.
For driving directions, the start and end coordinates of your trip are sent to the public OSRM routing service so it can compute the road route. Walking routes are calculated entirely on your device.
5. Map and content providers
- Mapbox — provides the map imagery. Your browser downloads map tiles from Mapbox, which processes your IP address under Mapbox’s Privacy Policy.
- Public campus data — building names, rooms, office locations and staff details shown in the app and directory come from public institutional information. They are not collected from you.
- Hosting & delivery — the site is hosted on Vercel with content delivery from providers such as Google Fonts, jsDelivr, cdnjs, unpkg and the Tailwind CDN.
6. Cookies and local storage
We do not use advertising cookies. Like most websites, Google Analytics may set cookies, and we store a few small items in your browser’s local storage: a random analytics ID, a session ID, small feature flags (for example, whether you installed the app), and the offline map cache so the app keeps working without internet. You can remove all of this at any time by clearing your browser data for this site; the app will simply treat you as a new anonymous visitor.
7. Advertising
USTED NAV currently shows no advertising. If advertising is introduced later, this page will be updated to name the advertising partners and describe any advertising cookies before they are enabled.
8. Children’s privacy
The app is intended for university students and staff. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect any data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided information to us, contact us and we will remove it.
9. Your rights and choices
Under Ghana’s Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843), and similar laws in other countries, you may have the right to access, correct, or request deletion of data held about you. Because our analytics are anonymous, we cannot identify you from them directly — but you can:
- Delete everything locally — clear site data in your browser settings to erase your analytics IDs and the offline cache
- Request deletion — contact us (section 10) and, if you can share your device ID or the approximate dates of your visits, we will delete the matching analytics records
- Block analytics entirely — use tools like the Google Analytics Opt-out Add-on or enable Do Not Track / Global Privacy Control in your browser (we respect it where supported)
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this page as the app changes. The effective date at the top will always show when this policy was last revised. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated policy.
11. Contact
For any privacy question, request, or concern, contact the developer through GitHub: github.com/kingenious0. We aim to respond within a few days.
